How to auto-transcribe subtitles

Use Screenfly's browser-assisted Auto subtitle workflow to create draft subtitle rows from video audio.

What Auto subtitles do

Auto subtitles create draft subtitle rows from the active preview video's audio. In the current product flow, this uses browser speech recognition when available.

Treat Auto subtitles as a starting point. You should review and edit the output before baking.

Start Auto subtitles

Open the Subtitles rail and choose Auto. Keep the video playing in the tab while transcription runs.

As speech is detected, Screenfly creates subtitle rows anchored to the active preview time.

Browser support

Auto subtitles depend on browser support for speech recognition and access to the video's audio track. If the browser or video source does not support it, Screenfly shows a clear unsupported or no-audio message.

If Auto is unavailable, use manual subtitle rows, file import, or per-row dictation where supported.

Clean up the draft

After Auto finishes:

  1. Remove filler words that do not help the viewer.
  2. Shorten long rows.
  3. Check that timing matches the product action.
  4. Add missing labels or button names manually.
