How to polish subtitles for voiceover

Create a voice-adjusted subtitle version that reads more naturally when used for narration.

What Polish does

Polish creates a second subtitle version called Voice adjusted. It is intended to make subtitle text and timing fit narration better.

Your original subtitles are preserved. You can switch between Original and Voice adjusted in the Subtitles rail.

When to polish subtitles

Use Polish when you plan to add voiceover from subtitle text.

Good narration often needs slightly different phrasing than on-screen captions. For example, a terse caption like "Choose export" may become "Choose the export format and resolution for the finished video."

Create the voice-adjusted version

Add or import your Original subtitles first. Then choose Polish in the Subtitles rail.

Screenfly creates the Voice adjusted version and retimes cues around a natural speech pace.

Choose the active version

The active subtitle version controls:

  • preview captions
  • voice generation
  • baked subtitles

If Voice adjusted is selected, Screenfly uses that version for narration and bake. If Original is selected, Screenfly uses Original.
