How to cut dead air with skip zones
Use skip zones to remove pauses, loading time, and repeated setup while keeping the source recording unchanged.
What skip zones do
Skip zones mark parts of the source video that should be omitted from the finished output.
They are non-destructive. The original recording stays intact, and Screenfly applies the skips during preview and bake.
When to use skip zones
Use skip zones to remove:
- loading screens
- hesitation before a click
- repeated setup
- mistakes you do not want in the final cut
- extra time between meaningful product actions
Skip zones are especially useful for onboarding and launch videos, where pacing matters.
Add a skip zone
Open the active file in Studio and use the skip-zone timeline track. Drag or add a zone over the section you want to remove.
As you edit, Screenfly recalculates the final duration so you can see how much shorter the output will be.
Preview before baking
Play the preview after adding skip zones. Make sure the cuts still preserve context. A demo should feel fast, but not confusing.
If a cut feels too abrupt, adjust the start or end of the zone instead of re-recording.
