How to import an existing video
Add an existing local video to Screenfly so you can edit, bake, and share it.
When to import instead of record
Use import when you already have a source video and want to refine it in Screenfly.
Good candidates include:
- a previous product recording
- a customer success walkthrough
- a founder-recorded clip
- a product update video that needs subtitles or trimming
Imported videos become normal Library assets and can be opened in Studio.
Import the file
From Library, choose the import action and select a local video file. Screenfly uploads the file and adds it to your Library.
The imported video is stored as an original source asset. It is not baked until you open it in Studio and create a finished output.
Edit the imported video
After importing, open the file in Studio. You can use the same editing tools as a Screenfly recording:
- skip zones
- crop
- subtitles
- voiceover
- background music
- device frames
- bake and export
Keep the source safe
Screenfly edits are non-destructive. Your imported source remains separate from baked outputs. If you need another cut later, reopen the source and adjust the timeline instead of uploading a new file.
