How to choose a tab, window, or full-screen recording
Decide which browser capture source to use when recording a product demo in Screenfly.
Why the capture source matters
The browser share prompt lets you choose a tab, window, or full screen. The best choice depends on how contained your demo is.
Pick the narrowest source that still captures the full story. Narrow capture usually means fewer distractions and less private information on screen.
Use tab recording when possible
Choose a browser tab when your product demo stays inside one tab.
Tab recording is usually best for:
- SaaS walkthroughs
- onboarding flows
- dashboard demos
- feature announcements
- Product Hunt launch clips
If you plan to use Basic voiceover with tab audio capture, you may also need to choose the Screenfly tab and enable tab audio when prompted.
Use window recording for app workflows
Choose a window when the product or supporting workflow runs in a separate app window.
Window recording is useful when you need browser chrome, multiple tabs inside one window, or an app that is not a browser tab.
Use full-screen recording only when needed
Choose screen when your demo needs to move across multiple windows or apps.
Full-screen capture can be useful, but it also increases the chance of showing notifications, private tabs, or unrelated desktop content. Before recording, close sensitive windows and enable Do Not Disturb.
